Seachem Reef Iodide

Reef Iodide is a highly concentrated (8,000 mg/L) stabilized potassium iodide supplement designed specifically for reef aquaria to restore and maintain iodide levels comparable to those found in natural seawater. This formulation provides a safe and effective source of iodide that does not convert to toxic free iodine during storage or when introduced into reef environments. Unlike iodine, which is as toxic as chlorine and unsuitable for reef systems, iodide is as safe as chloride, making it ideal for marine use. Iodide plays a crucial role for invertebrates and various soft corals, including gorgonians and sarcophytons, supporting their health and vibrant growth. Regular dosing helps maintain optimal iodide concentrations, which can naturally decline over time due to biological consumption and chemical depletion in the aquarium.

DIRECTIONS: Each cap thread holds approximately 1 mL, with a full cap measuring 5 mL. For beginners, add 5 mL (one capful) per 200 L (50 gallons*) every other day. Advanced users can dose 1 mL per 80 L (20 gallons*) daily to increase iodide by 0.10 mg/L. Adjust dosing to maintain iodide levels between 0.06–0.08 mg/L, measured 6–12 hours after dosing. Experts may establish a continuous drip system using this formula to calculate dosing in top-off water: m = 0.5 × v × i (where m = mL of product to add, v = tank volume in gallons*, and i = desired increase in mg/L). For example, raising iodide by 0.10 mg/L in a 50-gallon* tank requires 2.5 mL added to top-off water. Frequency and amounts of dosing should be tailored based on coral response and iodide consumption rates.
